Many of the members on this site have very absolute ideas about drug use. Like it turns you into a homeless junkie prostitute. Not true.
I am a drug user. I take prescription painkillers for fun. As a matter of fact, I am addicted, and I don't have a problem with that.
I am 20 years old, and I make more money in a month than most people make in a year (I sell residential real estate) I have never robbed for drug money nor have I stolen any drugs from anyone. I've never been in a violent altercation, nor do I have any enemies. I drive a nice car, live in a McMansion (home value about $850,000) and have had no legal problems aside from minor traffic violations.
So why do so many of you assume that I must be a junkie moron who lies, cheats and steals his way to temporary ecstacy? I'm FAR more successful than most people my age, and I have been using drugs for 4 years and running. I've never had any negative physiological or psychological effects.
Why am I seen as a criminal?

Wow. I had no idea so many people think they know everything. How many of you have taken drugs. Those of you who haven't have no right to censure me, since you have no experience. As for me "taking painkillers away from those who need them" I'm not. I buy them from people who get them and don't want them. If they REALLY needed them, they would'nt sell them to me. Besides, theres more than enough opium in the world to supply everyone who needs or wants painkillers three times over.
Stop listening to DARE and the PFDA. You might just learn something.

Addiction keeps requiring more and more and more. You may be "successful" now, if you consider success making a lot of money, but your addiction will soon require more than you can afford, if it does not kill you. It will rob you of your youth and health in quick order, it will isolate you for the important people in your life, and it will keep you from living a life that matters. Please get help to get over your addiction.

Ok, you are a functioning addict. I know more people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol who don't steal, cheat, lie, etc.. than do. They have jobs, apartments and are successful. A few lost their jobs because the addiction grew. Once they were out of work, they lost everything since they traded it all away for drugs. I also knew a guy that blew through 3 separate inheritances totaling over a million dollars supporting his and others heroin habits. Other friends did similar things and are on the street. It doesn't mean it will ever happen to you. If you always have extra income to support a steady habit you will probably not end up on the street. If you lose your source of income and cannot kick your habit then there's a serious problem. I don't know who's calling you a criminal but there are people that would still call you a junkie.
*4 years is not a long time. It took most people I know much longer than that before their lives really began to fall apart.

A successful drug user. Now there's an oxymoron if I EVER heard one!
How much money do you waste every month on your addiction? What else could you do with that money to help the world around you?
Have you stopped for a sec to think about the PHYSICAL ramifications of your addiction? You are probably destroying your liver.
So enjoy your "things" - your car, your mansion, your career while you still are in good enough health. Things are easily obtained and easily lost.
Whether you choose to believe it or not you are self-destructing. Of course when I was 20 I knew everything too so I'm sure this will be met with a deaf ear.
You are in my prayers.

Kudos to you, however by the very statement:
"I am a drug user. I take prescription painkillers for fun. As a matter of fact, I am addicted, and I don't have a problem with that"
You are not a successful drug user

Yeah well good luck with that. I have to take painkillers on a daily basis for a disease I have. If I go for a couple of days without them I become a completely different person. But hey since you are addicted you really need to keep your fingers crossed that you never get seriously ill and have to be on them cuz guess what they won't work.

It sounds like you're censoring yourself. Obviously you're admitting you have a problem. Do you wnat to hear that "you're the man"? Do you want to hear, "Way to go", "What a hero", what is it you want? Ultimately, you'll be a slave to your addiction, it may take a couple more months, maybe years, but if you know you're addicted and do nothing, you'll be selling your self on the street in the future. Good luck with that my friend. Good luck to you.

Have you told your doctor what you are doing?
Have you told the Police Department what you are doing?
Have you told your body what you are doing to it?
Why do you think you are not a criminal?
In my eyes, you are, well you can guess what we think about your intelligence. What is intelligence? The ability to know what happens if you keep taking a drug for reasons that it was not intended.

What about the ones who are not so "lucky"? What about those lower down th efood chain, who may steal or rob to get your tablets? I suppose you would argue that is not your responsibility.
