Hi, my suggestion is that as long as you don't bring a creche, it's ok, you could kind of celebrate the REAL dec 25th festival, the winter solstice, in other words, the "birth" or "rebirth" of the Sun!! Aftes all it's not really religious in nature because its a simple and plain astronomical fact that the sun appears to "come back" as the days start getting longer again!! That's where all the tree lighting business started in the nordic european countries!! Nothing to do with any GODS...
So the only tricky part is calling it "Xmas"... but well...
Shalom and happy Hanukkah!

I have to tell you, most of who celebrates Christmas have nothing in their mind regarding the religion of Christianity. I find that the Christmas tree works for my beliefs too, non-Christian but more pagan and animistic.
I think the culture that we live in just goes nuts for Christmas because of the benefit to the corporations and retailers, etc. So I think they've definitely reached your daughter and your husband.
I would probably tolerate it. But I would just do the heck up out of your Hannukah celebration this year, dress it up more. Don't even give the tree a second thought, that's the corporate America thing, not your daughter's giving up her religion. If you husband doesn't agree with you, ignore him and in about 20 days he will see you are right in ignoring the tree and stockings... and then next year they'll all be forgotten.
I sincerely think that if you make a "big deal" and tear them down this would put you in the center of the attention and not the holiday you will be celebrating.
Do it up good mama.

You don't have to believe in Jesus to celebrate Christmas. I grew up orthodox but I am now a reformed Jew and I married a Catholic man. We celebrate both holidays. My children know all of the prayers and we celebrate Channukah for the tradition - we give small gifts each night. When we celebrate Christmas, we decorate the house with lights and set up a tree. My kids get the larger gifts on Christmas. On Christmas day we always go out for Chinese food and see a movie. But the best thing is, we spend it as a family just hanging out together.

Buy her some PlayDoh and tell her that she should make a menorah out of it and stick wax candles in the clay and then let it harden.
I like the Passover Quest better. Send the gentiles on an Easter Egg hunt for the Missing Baby. The Purim Quest is pretty good, too: it's where the IDF soldiers hop on bulldozers and see how many young women they can squash before the press arrive.

Nothing. I have many jewish friends that have a Tree each year. Nothing wrong with it. You need to allow them to be creative and enjoy the season.
Hanukkah begins December 16th. Happy Hanukkah to you and your family. God Loves All His People.
