it is 2, not five like that guy said.
if there is a bracket, you must take 3 and times it by 2a+1. 2a times 3 is 6a, and 3 times 1 is 3. So your result so far is: 6a+3=15. you have to get the three on the other side so then you do the opposite of addition which is subtraction. so you take 15 and minus it by three. then you're left with: 6a=12. now you want the 6 on the other side. 6a is 6 times a in different terms. so what's the opposite of multiplication? division! :) you take 12 and divide it by 6. then you get 2. so your end result is a=2.
it's hard to explain on the computer.. it's easier to write the problem out and show you personally like on a chalkboard or something. i hope i helped
in the sources is a pic i did that shows it.

3(2a+1)=15
a=?
3*2a + 3*1 = 15
6a + 3 = 15
6a = 15-3
6a = 12 /:6
a = 2
check:
3(2*2 +1) = 15
3(4+1) = 15
3*5 = 15
15 = 15
OK!

The answer is 2. If you take the 15 divide it by 3 you get 5. Take away one and figure that 2 x 2 is 4. So:
3x (5) = 15

divide both sides by 3 and you get
2a+1=5
subtract 1 from both sides
2a=4
divide both sides by 2
a=2
