I'm a 26 year old woman. I have always had really regular periods but this month has been strange. I had my period the week before last. It lasted 4 days and stopped pretty suddenly, then I had a week without any bleeding but woke up on Saturday bleeding again and quite heavily, not just spotting, and I'm still bleeding now. I don't get it? Is it normal? What could have caused this? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Periods are easily effected by you diet & lifestyle and can be upskittled if your stressed or not eating properly.

It may be nothing, but visit your GP just incase, better to be on the safe side!

irregular cycles generally happen everyone at some stage even if they have always been regular. This can be caused by weight loss or gain, new medication, excessive exercise, loss of appetite or illness, stress, change of lifestyle. It also may be caused by an infection or polyps or could indicate something like endometriosis. There are a number of reasons. It may be nothing or could be serious. This is why you need to see the doctor and get it investigated, for your own peace of mind. Good luck.

because you are having irregular periods there is a possibility that you may have polyscistic ovaries or scar tissue in you oviduct especially if the bleeding is accompanied by lots of painful uterine contractions ,diarrhoea or vomiting.polysistic ovaries or blocked fallopian tubes can only be confirmed by an ultrasound which shows what is happening in your uterus.the bleeding may not necessarily be your period but something more serious.get help as soon as you can from your doctor and get well soon.

If you are understress you can have what is called mid cycle bleeding like I am experiencing now. For me I am not going to worry about but if it happens again next month then I will go to the GP. I suggest for your peace of mind you visit your GP but do not worry about it too much just try to find out exactly what is happening it may be just a hormonal inbalance or like me stress.

Go to the doctors. Its the only sane thing to do. Also, check you haven't left a tampon up there if thats what you use. I did and thats how I found it...... You suddenly stop bleeding then as the tampon cannot take anymore you start to bleed through it. But get to docs...... Mooxxxxxx

I dunno, because every woman's period is different. Mine last for 4 to 5 days, sometimes 3 even 2. My shorter periods, the cramps hurt like hell, but my longer, they don't. I bleed heavy the first day it starts, and the last day. So, whatever the case, it's pretty normal. If you miss a few, you might be expecting!

Hi ya

This occassionally happens to me.

I wouldn't worry yourself about it too much but make a note in your diary of when you bleed, how heavy you are and how often. Keep a record of this and if it continues to happen make an appointment to see your doctor. Take your diary with you so you can explain and show him exactly whats happening.

Till then, dont worry about it honey

You need to go to your doctor - it could be a change of contraceptive, or a miscarriage or any number of things. Only your doctor can help you! Something similar happened to me after i'd been on the same pill for years - apparently my hormones had gone nuts. I've since changed to a nuvaring after trying other pills and turning into a psycho......... it's great. Talk to the doc!!

Sounds like you need to see a doctor. In the meantime, keep a log or diary of what is happening each day with your period (including any cramping, headaches, tiredness, etc.) Try not to be too stressed about this though - it may turn out to be absolutely nothing to be concerned about. :o)
