both are ok, "Homemade" is cheaper, you can get a can of "no salt added" (which is what you want) veggies for 50 at the most and get four or more meals out of it. Invest in a food processor. Drain the veggies then use the processor and puree them, you can divvy it up into freezer baggies and freeze them. I did both, but mostly did the "homemade" stuff. You can also boil chicken with no flavoring and puree it and mix with veggies. When you buy can fruit buy it in fruit juice not sugar.
I'm sure you can find recipes and "how to" on line.

Homemade is fresher and nutritious than commercial baby food.
You can control what you give your baby when it's homemade. There are no extra additives and preservatives. Homemade baby food is prepared with fresh ingredients so it taste better and makes the transition to eating the family's food easier for your baby.
Store bought food has a 2 year expiration date. Not to mention it's more expensive. You can make a whole month's supply of homemade baby food in only 1 hour per month, freezing the baby food in ice cube trays.

Read ingredients on a jar of baby food & you will find that much of it is made up of cornstarch, which has no food value at all. A small blender, Ice cube tray, & you are set. veggies, fruit, what have you . Blend, put in the icecube tray, Let it freeze, then store the little portions in a plastic bag. Take them out as needed. Potatoes, veggies you cook for supper can quick feed baby. & you know it is real food. Dr. told me when my son was an infant that the baby food was useless. Maybe convenient but thats it.

Make your own. It's fresher, has more vitamins and minerals, and if you make it right, will have less sodium.
Have you ever tasted commercially made baby food? It's really nasty and has no flavor.
When you make your baby food, make sure there is nothing else in it but the original food in order to prevent the potential for allergies that you may not be able to pinpoint (onions, garlic, herbs and spices.).

Nothing beats home made!
Starting at about 8 months we started giving our daughter the same food we ate, just put through the blender.
When at age 2 the blender burned out, tried to give her Gerber's baby food. One taste, she spit it out, and stayed with only milk until the blender was back in operation. ;-)

Some jar food is good...they make a lot of organic varieties now. Read labels and eliminate salt and sugar. When you can't find a good version of some food in the jars you can make it yourself.

it depends if your gonna buy organic baby food that would be the best for your child cause even homemade applesauce with the apples you will use pesticides were used to kill insects on those apples thats why they want you to wash your food before you eat it so your best bet for your kiddo is organic foods of any kind cause there are no pesticides used in their growing process or hormones for their meat either,be it cows pigs or turkey. trust me

Home made is better but both are fine as long as you read the labels of what you buy. If you are making home made make sure you wash and peel everything well. Buy fruit from locals if u can, as you are buying before the fruit is treated. Range fed chicken and beef help too. I gave mine both and luckily she is fine without allergies. READ THE LABELS.

We used bought baby food for all 3 of our girls and they are all healthy and happy. As a dual working family we found it easier to purchase the food. We would shop around and try to find good deals on the organic jars but we were just as happy with Gerbers baby food.
It really depends on your preference and time, good luck! :)
