My husband has a clogged ear. Has had it for three days. He has been taking ear drops, but those don't seem to be working. Any other solutions?

OK, this is a little weird maybe, but I've found that on the rare occasions when I've taken a nice long hot bath, if I lean back and put my head under water and tilt it back so the water completely fills my ear canal (sometimes helps if you tip your head from side to side too), that it really cleans my ears out after soaking for a while. You need to kind of reverse the process in bringing your head back up out of the water in order to drain the ears.

(In submerging, when you get to the point where you can really feel/hear that your ear canals are completely flooded, you are all set for your ear canal soak.)

May father had problems with ear wax when he got older, and ended up using some sort of ear drops all the time to loosen things up.

Sometimes after a hot shower it feels good to kind of loosely roll up some toilet paper and insert it part way into the ear canal to suck out the moisture - this should also pull out some ear wax.

This the whole subject does border on the mildly gross though, eh? ;->

Do NOT use an ear candle/ear cone. They can create a dangerous vacuum in the ear that can seriously damage the ear drum. On top of that they do NOT work. The wax you see in the cone after you use it is just melted wax from the cone itself! Please, please, please do not use one. Your husband needs to go to the doctor if the drops are not working. A Q-tip may be a bad idea as it can push the wax in further. For now until the doctors appointment he should take a steamy shower and wipe the inside of his ear out with a cottom ball afterward. He should lay on the side with the clog while he sleeps, and he should go to sleep after the shower as it may help it drain. No finger in the ear, no Q-tip, no ear candling. Just a doctor and the things mentioned above. Good luck!

Well if it its water I am a big swimmer and I use this stuff called Swimmer Ear. I don't know if they still make it but it is basically a water dropper that has rubbing achohol in it and you just drop it in ur ear hold it there and it dries the water all up. I'd recommend 70% rubbing achohol.

At most natural foods or health stores, you can buy something called an ear candle for fairly inexpensive. They are very easy to use and they pull all of the gunk right out of your ear. Some think it sounds gross but it is actually kinda fun and it really works!!

I went to Florida and contracted an eardrum fungus. This pain was worse than the worse toothache that i ever had. Went to Dr. and he washed out my ear; and the wax buildup was so thick underneath the fungus that he had to get some special instrument to pull it off. Then he flushed it out about three more times and I have never felt relief like that. Instantely the pain disappeared.

If his pinky is small enough to fit into his ear he can rapidly thrust his pinky in and out of his ear. This should cause a siphon effect of sorts and pull the liquid, or whatever it is, out. I do this all the time when i go swimming.
