I absolutely have consistently believed that that is an stunning theory for Scotland to change into self sustaining. that in my e book alongside with thousands and thousands of alternative English taxpayers ability an entire separation and under no circumstances something a lot less. English taxpayers can not watch for the day to come back at the same time as the yoke that has been placed around the neck of English taxpayers has been got rid of. with none doubt Scotland is pulling England down and it is going to get even worse at the same time as the North Sea Oil runs out in 25 years time. A difficulty change into presented in this very internet web site some time in the past and it went something like this. If Scotland and England held a referendum on the action.of Scottish Independence.and the outcome change into Scotland voted to stay contained in the Union at the same time as England voted to kick Scotland out. Scotland might want to be out swifter than you may want to assert 'knife'! Edit. i'd opt for to understand the position Natty-Lee keeps acquiring those ficticious little quips from? little question from the Alex Salmond indoctrination Scottish Nationalist propaganda branch. Scotland has been scrounging off the backs of English taxpayers for generations.

Firstly, simple matter of economics. If Scotland gains full independence then it will be unable to support itself on its current levels of government income. Contrary to popular belief the oil reserves in the north sea will not make up for the huge ammount of taxes paid by English, Welsh and Northern Ireland residences which is invested in Scotlands infrastructure each year.
Secondly, matter of defence. Scots make up a small minority of the British armed forces, call it 5% for argument. 5% of the current British military forces (including eqiopment be it an SA80 or a type 32 destroyer) would be insufficient to defend a land area the size of scotland.
Scotland needs to stop viewing independence as a panacea for all its problems. It also needs to stop viewing the english and ancient wars of unification (in which i cannot emphasize enough that a Scottish King became the King of Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England - James IV of Scotland becomes James I of Britain) as the source of everything from unemployment to the price of fish.
We're stronger together, however the rest of Britain would remain strong without Scotland and Scotland would not.

No, they wouldn't last 5 minutes. Besides, why do people seem to be so determined to break into factions. De-volution is by its very title going backwards. We should be moving forward, working as 1, not trying to break into old factions and revive old conflicts. Shall we bring the Pics and Huns back too, and the Romans, perhaps bring back the Vikings, spears and start killing everybody that doesn't think exactly how we want them too as well!!!

dukeofmud,
I suspect that you forgot to tell us that you are also a unionist and probaly the type of person who believes that Ulster should be part of the U.K as well. Next you'll be telling us that in your "educated" opinion the reformation and subsequent demonisation of Catholicism was as good thing, as were the highland clearances.
I would have thought that a rupert with a degree would be able to see that we are heading towards a United States of Europe which is more or less inevitable, instead of resorting to the same tired old unionist propaganda that we've all heard for decades.
