No, you can just use the trial version of WinZip. The trial expires but full functionality stays with it for life. http://www.winzip.com

You can download a copy of winzip for free (free download). Winzip itself is either freeware (for some of the very old versions) or shareware/trial ware. (i.e. try before you buy, winzip isnt expensive by the way its about £12?).
Winzip is a compression program & companies often use this method to keep driver file sizes small for downloading over non broadband connections (dailup).
**You WONT be able to open the Brother driver file because you have to have a copy of winzip installed on your computer. Then you will be able to exstract the required driver files and then install them for use with the Brother 1230.

WinZip is not free and some of these other tools are much better.
