If you have a 28 day cycle, you are most likely to ovulate on day 14 and hence fall pregnant. However because the male sperm can survive in a woman's body for 72 hours, its best not to have intercourse 2 days before and after day 14, or to use protection.
All the other 23 days depending on the precision of your cycle calculations should be fairly safe.

That depends on wether you want to get pregnant or not.
You cannot get pregnant during your period.
Take your temperature every morning when you wake up. It will rise when you ovulate (around the middle of your cycle). Once released the egg remains viable for fertilisation for just 12-24 hours. Also keep an eye on your mucus, it will become stretchy like egg white as you approach ovulation. Sperm can surivie for a max. of 5 days in this most fertile mucus.
From three days after you temperature rises you are naturally infertile for the rest of your cycle.

Ovulation, which only takes about two minutes to complete, usually occurs 14 days after the onset of the period in a 28 day cycle. Ovulation always occurs 14 days BEFORE the onset of your period. The egg is capable of being fertilized for 24 hours. If your period is 29 day, then you would usually ovulate on Day 15. Subtract 14 days from the length of your period, and this will give you the approximate time of ovulation.

Ovulation posssible from 14 to 16 day after period. The ovum lasts for 1 to 2 days normally.During ovulation body temperature of woman goes up.You can measure with a thermometer.Avoidind sex from 13 to 17 day after period is considered to be safe. But safe period is not hundred percent safe due to early ovulation, late ovulation, the sperms splashed/ejaculated inside remaining active for longer time etc.Use condoms always if you do not want pregnancy.

Probably the best time for a woman to have intercourse is when her husband is out of town on a business trip.
