The similarities are that two young people from rival parties fall in love. The differences are that in Romeo & Juliet, the rival parties are 16th Century Italian families as opposed to New York City gangs in the 1950s. Also, the two lovers both die in a suicide in R&J, where the boy gets killed but the girl lives in West Side.
