I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS AND IF ABOLISTIONIST DURING THE 1800'S TRYIN TO ABOLISH SLAVERY WERE EXTREMISTS OR NOT?

It depends on the sign of the times.

Extremist is simply a label for people who hold "extreme" views, compared to the majority of the people. It is a "convenient" label to attach to dissenters.

For example, people who believe US should be a monarchy would be labelled an extremist, as s/he would be a tiny minority.

By the early 1800's standard, abolitionists, especially those who actively help escaped slaves, would be considered extremists, since slavery is still prevalent during that time. On the other hand, it also depends on which strata of people you're talking about. The mid to low class don't care since they aren't rich enough to own slaves, and they don't have much power to say about it either. The rich do own slaves, and they got the money and power to have a say about this.

And no the Abolitionists were not extremists, they felt all men were equal, that no man had a right to sell another or use as their slave. "Extreme" is to carry anything to the ultimate extent of its meaning! Like, if I suggest a hair cut, your "extreme" action would be to shave your head instead of getting a "hair cut".
