It plays some. But not all. But PS3 will have updates coming out to improve compatibility with more PS2 and PS1 games.

Sony is working on it but i highly doubt that they will ever get it to work with 100% of the games. The PS3 will need somekind of software emulation in order to run the ps1 & ps2 games. Good luck finding a PS3, you're better off with the xbox360 and get the PS3 later on when there's no shortage.

Thats not true. The ps3 has full backwards compatibility. You can play ps1 and ps2 games on it.

should be fixed with a patch in the near future.. hopefully.. it has the PS2 chip in it.. just software glitches..
well.. the games will play.. just on random parts will freeze..

ya wait for the updates that will be good for you , even i have heard that they dont play all the old games . but then nothing is complete the new one is more smashing .
though i would prefer xbox 360 , have heard a lot about it man

This is not a flaw.... Sony want's people to have to replace their old games with new ones so they can make a profit and cover the millions lost in their laptop battery fiasco.

it will play all PS2 games but some of PS1 games...
theres probali ganna b a cd or summin that fixes it.. its sony that makes it...
they can do anything!

Given that it's got an ethernet card and Wi Fi cabability, any backwards compatability problems it *might* have will likely be patched to fix.
