I was talking to one of my friends who practices Voodooo and she was telling me about the wonders of Wanga and Voodoo Dolls. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them or could give me some more information. I am simply curious.

A wanga is a sachets or poppet that is made to bring about a desired effect. There is usually a spirit attached to the wanga. A voodoo which is the same thing as a poppet can also be the same thing as a wanga. A poppet is a form of sympathetic magic. It uses a human image to represent someone. Something personal is put inside the doll along with herbs, oils, stones, etc specific to the desired effect. I have used poppet ts before to represent myself in magic. I have never used them for someone else though. I have never used or want to deal with wanga. Is is not allowed in the house(Vodou) I belong to. Both of these things can be used to hurt or help.

They made one in The Witches of Eastwick out of candle wax.

I recommend the book We're Not in Kansas Anymore for a lot of these questions--it covers voodoo, witchcraft, hoodoo, vampirism, a little bit o' Satan...the author interviews a wide variety of people who don't follow the usual religious/spiritual paths. It's a great book.
