What would you need? For the sake of simplicity, lets say it wasn't anything involving (long-term) radiation. It could be an electromagnetic pulse, a "deep freeze" or something that disrupted worldwide communications and crippled most governments. What would you need to survive and why?

The first thing, sadly (besides the obvious food, water and fuel) that comes to mind, sadly, is a weapon. What do YOU people think? (Please don't write if you wouldn't want to survive, which I understand...I just want survival plans, mmmkay?)

Thanks to the people who answered SERIOUSLY (the other one knows where he can go!).

But I was speaking generally: you don't necessarily have to stay in your house. You could venture out to a safer place, if there was one. Give me some scenarios! I saw a film about it and just got wondering..."What IF?"...

You need to enter a large, strong group, pretty much like the garrison of a fortress, and gain your place in that group. You'll never survive too much alone, no matter how many guns you have, there always will be a stronger, better armed person. That's the whole idea behind governments and nations and borders and national armies etc. Your group must control as much resources as possibile, and of course must be able to defend itself and the resources it owns. Medieval towns, with walls and only a few gates, ilustrate well how people associate in order to survive and have children when no superior power is able to defend them against villains. Your group must have all the needed specialities, such as medics, soldiers, craftsmen etc. After all, human kind solved competition by dividing jobs and benefiting from the input of every person. Pretty much it would be a return to the primitive kinds of society.

I've thought about that before and I also feel I would need a gun. I've gone so far as to think I should get one now just so I have one IF the time comes, but I haven't and most likely will never get one. I have bad vision so I'd need my glasses and my sturdy steel toe boots if a lot of walking was involved. A bullet proof vest would be nice and I actually have one (my dad was a cop) I'd most likely try to seal myself into my apartment so I'd need materials to block the windows, doors, etc.. Then, I'd probably just sit there and wait with a radio for god knows how long. If I had to go out, I might want to stay with a group but there's a good chance I'd end up being killed anyway so the gun wouldn't help much especially if everyone had one.

Reference books on survival and a bazooka. Only because I'd love to refer to my bazooka, like, "The other day I was walking over all the cars on the freeway with my bazooka and this really cute guy came over and asked if that was a bazooka on my shoulder or if I was just glad to see him..."

OK, really I would want my sense of humor over anything.

Peace.
