I can only assume you are using Windows XP. If so, see the following link for an answer:

XP likes to have a program associated with each file type, if it doesn't it gets worried.
Right click on the file that triggers the message and select 'open with', then browse to the program, that should sort the problem.

WOW! Deja vu! I used to get this message a lot on my old computer (which I suspect may have been clockwork) but I haven't seen it for ages!

I used to click through all the "associate with" options then "cancel" til I got it to open!

There is probably some way for the computer literali to get it to open instantly - but I am a closet luddite!

Good luck...

Right click the file icon you want to open
select open with
highlight program you want to open it
check the box ..always use the selected program to open this kind of program.
Click Apply and OK
NOTE.... You may need to browse and add the correct program.

it means you dont have the correct program installed to open the file - or the program you need is installed but not set up correctly to work with the file you want to use.

you may have received a file that you do not have a program to open it with

for example if it ended in .pps and you did not have powerpoint viewer you would get the same message.
