I'm looking to get my father an ipod or mp3 player, but he isn't much on listening to music. He likes to listen to the books on tap/cd stuff. The books on cd can be from 12-30 some hours worth of data, and my stepmother can get the cd's from the library and then rip them on the computer. So which would be better to have, and what size of mp3 or ipod would i need?

it'll mostly be used for books. How much does it cost to download a book using itunes? and are there alot of different books available?

Get an iPod (it is an mp3 player). They are relatively inexpensive (starts at $100 for cheapest model) and can hold a lot more that some of the other mp3 players on the market. And if you order directly from Apple, they will give you tech support for it.

For strictly audio tapes/books you don't need as much space because they aren't as high quality as your average mp3. So even though its 30 hours for a book it is probably a third of the size of your average mp3 that would be the same length. I'd go for something simpler to use than IPOD especially if your dad is technically challenged. Size won't matter much, probably a SanDisk 1 gb player would be perfect. They're usually around 50, 60 bucks.

I would say Mp3, more flexibility, more variety, more downloads on the nature of data you are looking at and most cd are easy to rip to mp3 audio. Its like marmite, u can only love one of them an ipod or an mp3? Go for a 1-2GB mp3 player. If you can invest in an mp3 that maybe about 4GB depending on your budget then go for it!

Well, if he needs to store large files on it, like the 12-30 hours of data. GET AN IPOD! mp3 players are only for few songs!

Ipod is more "flashy" so its going to look nicer but there are mp3's that do equally for less.
