I have experience with both. When you are in love with someone, you take joy in the little things they do, like breathing and eating. You are in awe that the universe could create someone so wonderful. To me, that's what love feels like.
Obsession is the dark side of love, I think. I think that obsession is a form of poisoned love that's not turned into hate. When you're obsessed with someone, every moment away from them feels like you're dying. You have to be with them or near them every waking moment, or at least have something of theirs so that you can look at it and think of them. Obsession is sort of becoming addicted to a person.

Easy. Being in love is when you get that fuzzy feeling when you see them. Being obssessed is feeling frantic when you aren't with them. Feeling like you can't live without them can be either love or obsession. Feeling like you want to stalk them is obsessive. Ignoring their faults, or trying to date them if they don't want to be with you is obsession. Wanting to know what they are doing every moment of the day is obsessive. Thinking about them every waking moment is obsessive. Wanting to chain them to your radiator is being obsessive.

Love involves caring about that person, putting their interests first, and doing what is best for them.
Obsession is very self-gratifying and at the same time self-destructive. Obsession focuses on yourself above the other person, and desires for them to conform to your will for them.
