Check out a little known place called Mount Royal College in Calgary - it depends on what you want to study exactly, but they have a decent and well-respected music program. And it's a lot cheaper than places like Juilliard. Explore their website - mrc.ca.

For music, depending on where your located, I would try University of Puget Sound in Seattle. They have a great music program that is worth looking into. But its a private, probably out of state school for you. Try looking into your state universities, like Oregon's, Univeristy of Oregon has a great music program, unlike its rival, my school, Oregon State.

In Canada some friends of Mine went to McGill, and others to Dalhousie. Both have excellent reputations. Good Luck. I didn't continue with music, but I hope you have what it takes to go all the way.
