all companies in the UK are islamophobic because they will not employ me as i have to pray 5 times a day. How are we meant to work with such blatant racist policies by Christian fundamentalist companies. Sooner or later you will probably stop our job seekers allowance as well. Just leave us to practise our religion in peace.

I kind of agree with j. Sorry. I'm happy with immigration but immigrants have to abide by the culture of their adopted country and not expect special treatment. I thought it was racist when we treat you unequally but now, suddenly you want it.

It is nothing to do with being phobic, it is the fact that employers are not willing to pay for employees to disappear off five times a day while they are paying for them to pray. It is exactly the same with anyone of any religion, Christians for example if they have a job where they work on a Sunday cannot just down tools and say 'right I'm off to church now' It's not practical and no way to run a business.
You are living in Britain, at the moment a predominantly Christian country and if you are here you abide by the rules of the country's work policy, just the same as if a Christian went to live in a muslim country, he would be expected to abide by their beliefs and practices. If you are unable to find a job that suits you in this country, bugger off to a country where you will be entitled to do your praying 5 times a day and stop criticizing ours!!!
And people wonder why we the British are becoming a country of racists, when there are people about with your attitude it's no wonder!

Dee, companies cannot always be so lenient with its workers concerning their religious beliefs. Perhaps you did not realize that by law they have to allow certain amounts of time for lunch and breaks so that you are not on "work overload." It might be advisable for you to actually take these times in account and practice your religious beliefs, as they do not come with the company package (unless you sign a contract that does stipulate that you can).

Can you imagine what would happen to the workplace if every per son was allowed his/her time away from the desk for religious practices? In your country, are you given that special privilege to be away from your desk that many times?

In my husband's country, I noticed that the people were at their desk for the duration of the work schedule, excluding lunch and Fridays, when everyone went to the mosque. This is an acceptable practice in his country.

If it is not a practice where you work, no matter the country, perhaps you should seek employment where it is acceptable to practice.

The problem is that while you are praying you're not working. You get paid to work. You may need to find an employer who is flexible with their working hours if you want to hold a job and pray 5 times a day.

People fear what they don't understand. Your leaders should reach out more to Christians and others in order to foster inter-faith understanding. They should also speak out louder against the extremists. We need to know that the nutters are a minority and that your leaders want to seek them out and get them locked up.

As for the praying thing, again, I think you need to make people understand. We are really a tolerant bunch, most of us, so long as we don't feel threatened. I know that in my local hospital, for example, there is a room where Moslem staff can pray.

Which companies are Christian fundamentalist? I can't think of any! Many Christians that I know like to keep their faith private; for fear of being labelled as loonies, quite frankly. If you are good at your job, and discreet with your faith (not going round trying to convert people who aren't interested), then I am sure there is something out there for you. Don't give up trying!

By Law, this is a Christian country. As a people we probably distrust Islamics because of the atrocities committed by Islam World-wide.

But like coppers, we all hate 'em 'till we meet 'em! It is every Asian's duty to endear them self! Only friendship and openness can ensure peace and equality.

Because the government is busy making sure we the people are divided so we can't coordinate something against it. If we are preoccupied with this trivia we aren't paying attention to what they are doing. Elemental rule of combat, 'divide and conquer' - as for people who say 'if you don't like it here you can go somewhere else... ' That's exactly what the government wants people to think, that they should leave this country (like half a million do every 2 years) or tell other people to leave and feel all protective of this country's cohersive brainwashing... Hope that helps - and this applies to the UK and the USA alike. (they are both run by the same people)

Christians in the UK? hhmmm, Christians companies?

I think the root of any company is the almighty dollar, not God in anyway.

Practice your religion in peace? Boy I dont have to pray, but I WANT to.

I don't believe there are NO companies that allow their employees to pray. Most hospitals and airports have somewhere for prayer, so it's not like nobody recognises the need.

Try pointing out the time spent on coffee and cigarette breaks by other employees. Or find a job where you have your own office, then you can pray in private!

Good luck in your job hunting!

Because all we ever hear about Islam is they want to kill us and cut off our heads. Plus not all companies are run by Christians. You can practise your religion , which is more than I can say about Christian trying to practise theirs in Islamic countries. You go to work to work and get paid for your time, not to pray.

Ask the company to provide you with feedback / explanation of why you didn't get the job. If you feel then that you have been reject due to your religion seek advice from citizens advice bureau as companies are supposed to conform to the equal opportunities act.
