A cup of water may be enough if your tomato plant is in a small container and is12-18" tall. The bigger the plant gets, the more water, and room for its' roots it needs. Tomato plants require regular watering and when they get big, they develop extensive root systems to absorb it. There is a lot of information available on the internet. A Yahoo search for "tomato plant care" (include the quotation marks in the Yahoo search box) yields 4,560 results. If you do the same search, and are willing to spend a little time exploring, I'm sure that you will quickly find lots of useful and interesting information.

Good luck with your tomato plants.

In the summer provide your tomato plant with a deep soaking. You water when the soil feels dry, but make sure to give it plenty of water if it gets really hot where you live. A cup of water would not be enough. Your plant will let you know when you have not feed it enough water because the leaves will droop. Good luck.
