Iam going to college to become a High School Theater teacher, but I am unsure what sort of demand there will be for that career. Does anyone know if this is a ideal route, or should I do something else?

The Arts are the first things to have their funding cut in public schools. This makes it difficult to find jobs in places where funding is low. When a teacher lands a job in this field, they're not exactly quick to give it up and pursue other careers. They hold onto the job because they know that as soon as they quit, another fresh face will try to get the job. What happens if they want to come back?

However, if it's what you really want to do, give it a shot. You might want to minor in another field or become certified in another subject so you have something to fall back on. The students who stick with you in theater are loyal to their teacher and loyal to the craft. Best wishes!

If you love theatre and you are honest enough to know that you will probably never work as an actor or director then by all means you should teach theatre arts.
the pay's better than the median income of actors and the benefits are better and you might actually be a positive influence on some young idealist as I once was.

If you do this, be sure to get a double major in education and theatre. That way, you still are leaving doors open for other teaching positions as well as other theatre positions.
Good luck!
