I'm scared. I just placed a delivery order with my local Chinese food restaurant and the total came to $27.80. I only ordered a large sweet n sour chicken, small egg drop soup, a large chicken lo mein, and 2 egg rolls. I'm not concerned about the money, but are the portions going to be huge? Pretty much just wondering, thanks.

*** And how much is an appropriate tip? I was thinking $6 since it's only a couple of blocks.

Sheeeeeeeeesh You must have really been hungry to order that much!!
Or did you plan on having a dinner guest?
(is 2 eggrolls a clue? lol)
Many have said to put the leftovers in the fridge ... I wouldn't do that, unless you want to eat Chinese food all week.
I would FREEZE whats left over, in 8oz portions, in a ziplick bag maybe, cause then you can just pop the bag in a pot of boiling water to reheat. (Much like the way some frozen foods come, in those boil'em bags).
This way you can have many meals & add other items to round out the meal, like a salad or soup. And you don't have to eat them one day after the other either!!
Anyway you've made me hungry ... so gonna check out my fridge to see what I can eat right now!
I hope you thoroughly enjoy your meal!
Bon Appetit!
BTW a $6 tip is overly generous ... but being it's the season to give, your delivery person would appreciate it.
$2-3 would be sufficient however.

Usually after 3pm when you order Chinese food they charge you for dinner and the dinner portions. The lunch portions will be about $4 cheaper and be enought for 1 person to eat. The dinner portions serve about 2-3 people per dish. If you're ordering just for yourself you'll have leftovers. The good news is that chinese food is still yummy the next day unless its Chow Mein. :)

Gina - sounds good to me. If it is just for your dinner, you had better invite a couple friends or learn how to heat chinese leftovers. If reheating later, if done properly, it will be good.
Large is generally a pint of each with a cup of rice for each + the soup and egg rolls. Delicious - but a lot of food. Tip is online for delivery of a couple blocks and cost of order.

In my experience with Chinese food delivery.. they ALWAYS give you too much food! Just eat until you're full, and then save the leftovers.
$6 is good for a tip.

That is a ton of food! But don't worry you'll be hungry again in a couple hours. Plus you'll have leftovers to tide you over for a few days. I would only give about $3 tip.

If there too big portions put some aside and save it for later, Chinese food always tastes good the day after.

after I order chinese nutrition it takes about 20 minutes because those adult men are freakin' quick (speedier than Jimmy Johns). Plus I stay around the nook from a chinese position. and likewise, it tastes both as reliable both sparkling and from the leftovers.

You can always save the left overs for tommorw's lunch and dinner..or put it in the freezer for another time to enjoy.
