I have a 2004 F150 truck. Every once in a while I get in, and I have a dead battery. The battery seems good and the gauge always shows that it's charging - and it starts up with a jump. When I'm having the dead battery problem I noticed a ticking sound in the back after I turn the truck off. If this is my fuel punp, why does it not turn off after I turn the truck off?

I had the occasional dead battery thing with a Ford some time ago.
I put in a Ford rebuilt alternator and that fixed it.
There is a diode in the alt that goes bad and causes this, I think.

It's quite possible that the fuel pump relay is sticky. This would account for the ticking noise and the occasional battery drain. First check the simple things. Get under the truck and make sure that the wires ti the fuel pump aren't frayed and grounding. Also make sure that the contacts on the connector are clean and tight.

sounds more like the battery is shot and won't hold a charge very long. The clicking noise sounds like relays clicking on and off
