Go to your local post office and pick up an application, or better yet, go to the State Department website (travel.state.gov/passport) and dowload the application.

Fill out the app, attach appropriate pictures and money and send it in! Viola... you have a passport (allow 60 days for processing)

Passports are relatively easy to get; your local Post Office is the place to go - you can apply there and even get your passport photos taken there.

I have given you, below, info directly from the US Department of State, along with some links for your information and use.
==================================
Get or Renew Passport

We know that when you need a passport, you will have a number of questions, from whether you have to appear in person – to what kind of fees to expect. We have put together information that should answer every question.

The links on the left contain all the information U.S. travelers need to obtain and renew passports.

Here's info from the first link that I copied for you:
========================================
First Time

First time passport applicants need to apply in person. This section contains a useful guide to determine whether or not an in-person visit is required as well as information on preparing documents and obtaining passports quickly.

Once you have received your new passport, and are preparing for your trip, you'll want to register with embassies abroad. Registration with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in the country you are visting, makes your presence known so we can contact you in case of an emergency.

Passports are good for 10 years, and cost about $75 to obtain.

Have fun traveling the world my friend!

go to the local post office. They have application forms and you can pay at the post office for the processing, etc. They will even take your photograph for you, or you can go to kinkos and they will take passport photos.

The post office has all of the paperwork, fees, etc.
