They were on the roads before cars and bikes and there's a reasonable chance they will be on the roads after them. Cars are already banned from many rights of way that horses can use and horses are banned from som that cars can use.

I thought horses used the roads before cars

Without a doubt YES

Forget the "they were here first" brigade cos I don't see any of them going to work on their nag and tying it up outside. No they go in their nice warm cars.

Damn animals are a sodding nuisance on the road. They are unpredictable and their owners are even more so. They expect you to get out of their way.

No put the lot of them down and turn them into pet food and grind their bones up for glue

Best horse it one that runs free and in the wild other than that the best horse is a dead horse

Well that's sure to stir up a bit of debate

Horses should be banned from all metalled roads, in other words any tarmac or concrete roads as they have been adapted for the use of wheeled vehicles. Where roads retain a pre-industrial surface, horses should be allowed.

a licence and test should be required for both horse and rider, with compulsory insurance at third party level, road tax, and regular vets MOT including psych test. horses should be single file only, wear reflectors and lights, give way to traffic, and move out of the way when a faster vehicle needs to pass.
also riders should stop dressing down drivers for going too fast even when the car is only doing 20mph on a 60mph road, stop putting kids and mental patients, and the very disabled on horses, and stop being snobby cunts, especially the women!

They should pay road tax like cars. Nobody who owns a horse is poor these days. By allowing rich people to use horses as transport for free the poor are subsidising the rich (yet again).

Horses are a mode of transportation, so if you ban horses from the road you may as well ban bicyclists, motorcyclists, etc. as well, because it seems like you only want cars on the road.

the law for horses being on the road is still current and it is at the disgrestion of the rider if they are safe to ride on the road most horse people love their horse and would not put them in any danger .

Couldn't have put it better myself mate, im sick of a bunch of over-priviledged teenagers riding their sh1t machines 3 abreast and waving at me if i pass them at any more than 5 mph, **** that, i pay £190 road tax a year just to drive on our pot hole filled roads, they clog them up for free. You called it dead right, if i took my Bowler Wildcat and blasted it across the field of some equestrian centre the phone lines would go into meltdown with toffy nosed twats calling the police.

Talk about double standards!

Just another example of the silver spoon brigade executing what they consider to be their gods given right to do whatever the hell they please.

Crispy - you are a god amongst men - have a thumbs up.

In the UK it is recognised in law that as animals used the byways before the car, they have priority over other road users. This is more noticed where roads pass over open moors, the law is sheep have the right of way.
