If your baby had an allergic reaction to foods, what happeded? What happened to your baby to know that he/she was allergic to it.

I'm considering starting my baby on something other than milk, and I'm curious what kind of reactions I should be looking for. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there. My daughter was allergic to eggs, and highly sensitive to cow's milk. They both caused severe eczema. If you're going to feed your baby commercial baby food, check the ingredients. Eggs shouldn't be given to a bub until after 12 months if possible, as they are a common allergen.
Besides the eczema, the eggs also caused an instant contact rash and swelling around her mouth. At that stage I hadn't discovered what she was allergic to and I was trying to feed her scrambled eggs. As soon as the egg on the spoon touched her lips, she broke out in a rash and started to swell up around the mouth.
So, I illiminated egg from her diet completely, and my naturopath go me to switch her to goat milk (which I now drink as well, as my new baby didn't cope well with cow's milk while I breast fed), and my daughter hasn't had eczema since.
Other common allergens are things like wheat, shellfish, citrus fruits, tomatoes, potatoes... that's all I can remember off the top of my head.
If you go and get some books about what to feed little ones, the good books will talk about possible allergies, what can cause them and what to look out for.
Also, bubs who don't do well with cow's milk can still eat yoghurt, as it has had live cultures added, which break down the sugars and stuff, making it much easier to digest.
Good luck feeding your little one :)

Yes. My baby had a reaction when she was 2 months old. I was so scared because some blood started showing up in her stools. I immediately took her to the pediatrician and after some tests, we discovered it was an allergy. I was breastfeeding my baby, so I had to stop eating lactose, nuts, seafood...and all probable allergic foods,... after that... thankfully she no longer had blood appearing in her stools. So, I believe if your baby has an allergic reaction, she will probably show it in her stools. Hopefully she will be fine though! It is very rare that a baby have an allergy, atleast that is what my child's doctor said. So in my case it was the breastfeeding, but I know that even with solids, one of the allergic reactions can be bloody stool. Also, if your baby starts getting a rash, that's another sign.
The best thing to do is have your baby eating the same thing for three consecutive days... and then change to another food for another three days. This way you will know what your baby is allergic to, in case he/she has a reaction.
I hope this was of help!
Good luck to you and your baby!!

When we gave one of our daughters baby food with strawberries in it she got little red bumps around her mouth. We tried it again a few weeks later and she had the same reaction. We avoided strawberries from then on and when she was about 16 months we tried a bite of strawberry and she got the bumps on her and around her mouth and on her hands. She is now six and a half and has no allergies to strawberries.
