Depends on how much trouble you want to go to. Get a fake tree, put it up, decorate it, get through Christmas, undecorate it, take it down, put it away. Real tree...go pick one out, cut it down, bring it home, put it up, decorate it, water it, pick up dead needles off the carpet, water it, enjoy the smell of pine, water it, get through Christmas, undecorate it, call around to find a place that takes old Christmas trees, load it up, haul it off, unload it, go home, empty the water out of the base, vacuum up dead needles. You decide.

When I was growing up my parents would buy a real tree with the roots still on the tree, each year we would plant it after Christmas.

Real!

Sure, they're a pain to clean up after, especially with pets, but it just wouldn't feel like Christmas without a real tree :)

We always have a fake Christmas tree. This year I bought a fiber optic one from Bed Bath And Beyond.

Neither- save your money and get a Poinsetta. I have 3 of them, 5 bucks a piece and a couple white lights for the outside bush. A couple timer candles in the windows. Elegant and practical without being showy. Trees are over rated, hard to take down with all the ornaments and tinsel is difficult to maintain, you wind up buying it every year and for what, one day...

Oh a real one. There's nothing better than a plush green tree that sends the smell of fresh pine around the living room.
