I have noticed that those that believe in God are either conservative (republican) or liberal (democrat), but it is rare to find atheists that are conservative. If you are a conservative athiest, why do you think that the majority of atheists are liberal (if you think that at all). Thanks.

Janeyfree... Thanks for the answer. I did not give you a thumbs down, in fact, I am grateful for your answer, it gave me some things to think about.

Ri... I don't think it is fair to say I was "stereotyping" and I am not sure how my question can be redundant and meaningless. I am fully aware of the fact that there are some liberal republicans and conservative democrats, however, I am generalizing, not stereotyping. Perhaps I was over generalyzing, but that isn't the point of my question, from the looks of it, most people understood what I was asking. You provided nothing with your response.

Me. I have many conservative views and (I think) there is no God.
I wouldn't vote for a democrat or a Republican though.

I am more moderate/independent.

Why do I think liberals tend to be atheist and conservatives tend to believe in God and go for religion? That's a very complex question.
I'll try to answer it.

More atheists tend agree with unrestricted abortion on demand, and if you think about it, it would make sense why they would, no?
There is no hell, no one has to know, your not taking someone's loved one, no one but you would know that thing you killed was missing, there is no one to answer to for it, and it's part of your 'body' like a cyst to be removed, so it's your choice.
There's no right, no wrong, just difference in opinion.--this would be the liberal/atheist motto.
--this is why they often stick up for immoral behavior with 'it's their culture' or 'your code of ethics isn't the same for everyone else', 'it was right at the time, but we don't think it's right anymore, therefore, it's not'.
-They are the moral relativists.

However, conservatives tend to believe because they believe our morals and ethics come from a higher power, and they attribute our conscience to do what is right with it being instilled by God.--otherwise, where would it come from?

Liberal atheists believe morals come from man,

Conservative believers think all morals come from God.

But I have thought about this issue before and see that Liberals were born Christians, and many liberals hold on to extreme Christian values,--especially the all time favorite: 'judge not less he shall be judged".-they take it to an extreme though.
But their compassion is misplaced and given to the undeserving, such as wanting to spare the lives of serial killers! But then don't even flinch when a second trimester abortion is described, they would probably deny it was happening anyway.
I have noticed liberal's capacity for denial, on a social level anyway, is very high. -- Especially if you're talking about the underdog, they will always go for the underdog. (woman trumps fetus in underdog status).

But I've seen conservative/Republicans/believers in denial about many social/economic issues, especially denial that our government has been completely infiltrated and corrupted by corporate interest.

This is why I don't really side with either one of them. I'm my own woman.

I can write a whole damn novel on this but I'll spare all of you.

I am an Atheist Conservative, and let me explain what exactly what being an Atheist Conservative is all about. I can't speak for all Atheists Conservatives but I will give my own personal perspectives.

1) Smaller Government: Less Government involved in peoples lives the better, and more freedoms we have. States should have the right to enact their own laws as long as it does not infringe upon the people rights.
Government should stay out of Social Issues such as abortion, Gay Marriage, etc.

Example: Gay marriage or even straight Marriage is never mentioned in the Constitution, and marriage is nothing more than a ceremony and a contract. If one State allows Gay marriage so be it, if another State is against it so be it. Even though I am an Atheist and believe in Gay Marriage, it is not a government issue and should be left up to the States. Since I believe in freedom of religion or freedom to not believe, if a Church doers not want to marry a Gay Couple they should not be forced to do so, or if they choose to marry Gay Couples they should not be forced not to.

2) Free Market aka Capitalism: Yes, I strongly believe that if the free market was actually free with only the bare bones, necessary regulations and less Government involvement the more jobs would be available, people would make more, cost of living would drop, less unemployment, people would be happier across the board etc, etc. Also this would promote more smaller businesses to open and flourish. With the Competition of the Free market, it would self regulate.

3) The Constitution: The Constitution of the United States are rights, or shall I say Natural Rights that all Americans Citizens are born with, and those rights shall not be infringed or taken away by the Government.I will take up arms to defend our rights and I am willing to give my life to do so.

Above all else we need to drastically cut back on this Welfare State. Government dependence is not freedom but slavery.

Many people think that Atheists are anti-Religion, Socialists, Liberal, or what ever. Fact is that Atheism is growing in the U.S and many of us are indeed Conservative

Being an Atheist Conservative is a tough position to be in when it comes to voting, especially since we live in a Country where most voters would rather vote for a Muslim than an Atheist, also since Conservative Politicians wear their Religion on their sleeve, and base all of their Social Policies on their Religious beliefs.

So far I am leaning towards the Tea Party since they are Conservative, they believe in religious freedom and separation of Church and State.

There is an atheist pro-life organization. Some atheists are conservative on fiscal issues, why not? Just because they don't believe in God can't think that gay marriage isn't permissible or that abortion is immoral? I will disagree with them but there are many conservative atheists.

I am not an atheist, but I am a Conservative, and I'd still like to weigh in.

I think the majority of atheists who are liberals are Secular Progressives (SP). Look at Canada or Amsterdam for a look at how SP's run things.

Science replaces God for these people.

Conservative atheists tend to be Strict Constructionists regarding Constitutional interpretation, which is why they are conservative.

We must constantly change and evolve to new circumstances and new environments. We should not hold on to old beliefs because we are comfortable with them. Change is the natural state of life. Liberals are called progressive for a reason, they believe in embracing the new. Conservatives, don't like change

Your stereotyping is really redundant and meaningless. As a middle of the road kind of a person, I have met atheist conservative and liberals. There are also conservative Democrats, and liberal Republicans. The only thing you can do to stereotype politicians successfully, is call them all liars.
