Artemisia Gentileschi was a woman painter in the 17th century. There are at least two novels about her and there's also a 1997 French film, directed by Agnes Merlet.

Artemisia Gentileschi 1593-1652-3? She was one of the first women to achieve recognition in a very male dominated world of Renaissance art. There is a wonderful fiction novel about her life by Susan Vreeland called "The Passion of Artemisia". If you liked the 'Girl with the Pearl Earring" you'll love this story too.

Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) was a female Impressionist painter. She was American and came over to Paris to paint. She met many of the famous painters of the period and her own paintings now sell for $1 million plus. Look her up on Google Images.

Yes of course but like all history it tends to be written by men. If you read EH Gombrich a real art specialist and a fairly modern writer, he still ignores women painters. It really wasn't the done thing to be anything other than a homemaker

A lot of female painters changed their names to men's names so they could fit in. A bit like female Writers and poets. It was very male dominated.

Madame (Elisabeth) Vigee Le Brun (1755-1842) was a fashionable painter of her day. She painted many portraits of Marie-Antoinette. There's a lot of information about her here, including her paintings:

First, you may desire to get her written consent to apply her image down on paper so this is not a criminal subject later. 2d, use her physique although that's fairly useful to regulate some key info so her age or individual is given away so actual. possibly paint her with crimson hair (ordinary to do, merely use the highlights and shadows in her organic shade with black/white and omit it whilst this is dry, use a wash of yet another shade of your choosing) or upload in info like a tattoo. i do no longer think of it could be an argument except her mum and dad take subject with it so that's fairly useful to get their consent besides.
