Answer: No. There is virtually no correlation between density and strength. However, if you limit the range of material types, such as in a comparison amongst pure metals, there is some correlation, though not much.

No. consider gold, which is very dense, but useless as a building material due to its ductility and low tensile strength. On the other end of the strength spectrum, you have titanium, which has a low density, but very high tensile strength
