Most everyone from other countries or Americans who lived in other countries all claim that USA is the most racist. And aren't we the only country that allows organized hate groups such as KKK, Neo-Natzies and others like Rednecks?? And yet we punish the ones such as celebrities who speak up their opinions against other race or sexuality?? Isn't that a hypocrisy?

Dixie Chicks got punished because they were speaking the truth agains Bush and see what happened to them. The people who immigrate here are usually from a country that's 3rd world and they obviously think it's easier to get into this country than others that's why they come here not because they think this is the best maybe they did think that about 20 years ago but no more, unless they're really ignorant.

It's impossible to answer such a question with a simple answer, so please forgive my response (which is too brief).

It's like asking "Is English really the hardest language in the world?" Many non-native speakers will give you a resounding yes, and there ARE weird exceptions to common spelling rules ("I before E except after C.. wait.. that doesn't work.").. but if you've ever tried to learn Mandarin as a second language, that's some complicated stuff. So anyone's answer just depends on their personal experience.

Having said that,

Most of the readers here have lived in the US for a majority of our lives. So (1) we might not recognize racism as such ('that's just how things are here') and (2) what countries would we have to compare to? There are definitely snobby people here, and racist people as well. Population wise, we have more people than many other countries, so we have that many more racist and snobby people for the world's citizens to encounter. (Great.)

The United States is NOT the only country that "allows" so-called 'hate groups'. (And besides, even if they're not legally protected under 'free speech', the groups are still there in other countries.) Even in Germany, one of the most legally anti-racist, racially tolerant countries (due to guilt from the Nazi time everyone continues to associate them with), there are still hate groups.

(Personally, I support Singapore's idea: they allow free speech up until the point where race and religion are discussed offensively.)

In Japan there are small right-wing radical groups that maintain that Japanese people are superior to all other peoples, and in Sri Lanka as well as several other areas (Darfur, too, right?) there are violent groups actually carrying out their racist believes instead of just voicing their opinions. (I'm thinking of military and civil clashes, but the concept's the same.)

And maybe Americans ARE snobby-- but I've heard the same about European countries like the UK and France... I think that's a cultural thing. Some countries' citizens tend to keep things to themselves (yet could think highly of themselves), yet others (like the US?) prefer to voice them loudly.

I hope that in part answers your question. The best you can do is not be snobby, not be racist, and that'll be one less American for the world to be concerned about.

And to the guy studying abroad in the US: don't worry, you'll be fine. Thousands of people have happily and successfully studied abroad here :)

We are allowed the ability of free speech and right to congregate and protest. So whereas we are vocal about our hate for others most countries do not have that right. But as far as I can tell, as in Iraq, there are factions fighting each other. Sounds like racism to me but called something else. Religious warfare. In most countries there are lower class and higher class and they have the same venom as the KKK in the usa. In France look at how the people from other countries were rioting because the "real" French people don't like them and say they take jobs sounds like those skin heads to me. But it's called something else, protectionism maybe. I think everyone is racist to some of everything and it's doesn't have to be called the same thing because it's a country. In Africa one tribe doesn't like another tribe because one tribe got advantages over another tribe. They are both black so it's not because one is black and one is another color. It's all over the world and in every country. Our country calls a spade a spade (no pun intended) very vocally which makes us look racist. In Venezula a good majority of the population is black but they are the criminals and put in jail just like the united states but you would never know that unless you went to Venezula. So no it's not just us it's everywhere.

No.
Have you talked to most everyone from other countries? How about the ones who are selling their souls to get to America?
No, we're not the only country that allows the existence of organized hate groups. The sad fact is they're everywhere and there's not much that can be done about it. If you have a workable idea that doesn't infringe on anyone's civil rights, feel free to post it.
Which celebrities are being punished for speaking their minds?
There's some hypocracy here, all right. Ignorance, too.

I'm sure other countries have their own hate groups. We just don't know about them...since many of us are also ignorant. Probably not racist but more ignorant of other cultures. In Europe, gypsies are mistreated and the equivalent of the way Americans treat some minority groups.
Yea, the way we punish those for their words is kind of hypocritical. ONe person will call the other a racial slur but the other person, a minority will reply with another racial slur but the celebrity will get in trouble. Whatever. It's messed up.

Well, you are going to have to keep up with the news if you are going to be a social commentator. The US is probably NOT the most racist country in the world. You would know that if you read more & you wouldn't say things like you have here. For starters, try reading up on the LATEST, most recent news regarding KKK & you'll see what I mean. There isn't enough space here to get into this right now.

You haven't travelled, have you?

Many countries are far more "racist" and snobbish than Americans ever thought of being.

Apparently, you're well indoctrinated by our mass media, public education, and peer pressure.

After all, who are you to call someone else a "hate group"?

Are you saying that because they're white, and you think it's evil for white folk to prefer to associate with other whites?

Why is it so important to force yourself on whites, or anyone else?

Why do you think "racism" is wrong - - - because someone told you?

Are only white folk "racist"?

Clean up your own house before calling other people derogatory names.

What goes around, comes around.

Yes, that is America, the Greatest Country on our Planet, and yet people are dieing to get in. Makes no sence to me. And the people that whine that something is racist, they are usually the biggest racist of all. The Dixie Chicks got blasted BIG TIME for speaking their mind, what happened to freedom of speech? Problem was she spoke her mind about our president on another continent. She should have been loyal to our president while on tour, if she was going to talk against him, it should have been on AMERICAN soil. Actually though I always thought people from England were more snobby,(no offense).

America is a Nation with a mission - and that mission comes from our most basic beliefs. We have no desire to dominate, no ambitions of empire. Our aim is a democratic peace - a peace founded upon the dignity and rights of every man and woman.

America stands for liberty, for the pursuit of happiness and for the unalienable right for life. This right to life cannot be granted or denied by government because it does not come from government, it comes from the creator of life.
