Yes, definitely wash it. It may not shrink if it's polyester, but it may still bleed or pill, and you want to get past that before you assemble the blanket.

No- you do not have to wash it! When you make the no sew tied blankets, you do have to trim the outer edges of the blanket before you start a few inches though. The ends stretch more than the rest and if you dont, it could end up looking lopsided!! I hope that helps!

It's best to wash and dry any piece of fabric before you work with it. After you've put all the time and effort into a project is NOT a good time to be surprised by something the fabric does. Get into the habit of washing any fabric you buy.

You do not need to wash it first, when I make one i wash it after. When you wash it first the blanket is a little more difficult to make because you have a stretchy side and you lose that when washing. My kids have washed theres and they just keep getting "cozier" according to my 6 yr old

I spoke with a lady whose mother taught her decades ago, to wash the tied fleece blankets afterwards because that will set the ties in place. She said if a tie comes loose, just re-tie it. I am trying this method..

No, if it's going to shrink, both pieces will do it equally. I've made several of these as gifts, and they are being washed and dried regularly with no bad results. They just get softer and cuddlier!
