Very new to reading fantasy, recently fell in love with the Dark Tower Series in a big way........just wondering if anyone would recommend Philip Pullmans Dark Materials books? Heard stuff about them, but wondering arent they childrens books? Are they v childish etc?

These are excellent books and definitely NOT for children--teens, yes (and adults, of course). Pullman deals with some very mature themes, and there are parts that are quite scary. I, too, love the Dark Tower series and absolutely recommend the Pullman books.

They are for children, teens, & adults alike. You might find them an easy read, but the story and plot is wonderful and they are incredible books. Also, after you read the 3 in the trilogy in order of course, read Lyra's Oxford. It's a companion novel. absolutely NOT just for children...children will like them, but only adults will get the commentary on modern religion the allegories and allusions in the novel..if you liked the Dark Tower books, you'll love these...happy reading!

i don't think most children would read them as they are to old for the age group. but they are differently young adult and adult. I like his last series Golden Compass the summary seems like it is for a child but it is more for sci fi teens and older

I love that series. They are classified as children's book, but they aren't childish, I'm pretty sure if you like fantasy, you'll love these.

Not for children definitely, they are an excellent read for teens (mature ones) and adults as well.
