I've not been having much luck with job interviews. Am finding that most of the jobs I am applying for involve a "role playing" exerice and its this that I continually muck up on.

In the past I've had to pretend to be the manager of a company and discipline a member of staff. I've also had to pretend to be the manager and deal with awkward customers.

Has anyone got any good tips on what I should say / do / act in such situations, as clearly I'm currently not saying the right things!

just take what you have learned from past interviews and apply it to the next...keep it up til you land a job.

I hate role play exercises, you act like a **** for 20 minutes and the HR drones laugh their arses off afterwards. Rage against the machine tell them if they want an actor call in a luvvy

Just be fair and reasonable in your responses. When i don't know how to approach a problem like yours i often think of someone who i know handles these things well and pretend to be them, after a while you start to realise how they are better at this stuff then you and you realise you can do it too. It's all about confidence.

For dislcplining the employee you should talk in a calm voice and tell the worker what the problems are and ask him for his input.
For the awkward customer you should listen to their complaint the paraphase it back to them to make sure that you are both understand what the customer needs .

Just try to focus what is most important thing in managing...find sources through internet read about it..and get prepared...but don't push yourself so hard...instead follow your instict and bring it on the table the best you can.

good luck.

Set up a similar exercise at home with someone, film the whole thing then watch and learn from it. (hope it works for you)

I really wouldn't recommend it. Just know your stuff and be confident. Rehearsing things is usually very bad.
