George H.W.Bush was president from 1988-1992 (4 year term) and then his son George W. Bush was appointed in the 2000 presidential election and his second term will end in 2008. The new president will be sworn in to office in January of 2009.
There are governing laws which prevent anyone from gaining office more than two terms - this was put into place as to eliminate a possibility of someone becoming a dictator or similar in the US government. There was only one president who served three consective terms in the office of the president. The law was put into place just following his leaving office.

The Bush from 1989 - 93 was his father. The current one has only been elected once, in 2004. He was appointed by the Supreme Court in 2000. The only other office Bush was elected to was Governor of Texas which is kind of like being elected dogcatcher since the Governor's job here is largely symbolic with the real power resting with the Lieutenant Governor.

You can't be serious, please! Fact is if he could run again I would vote for him. Mistakes happen folks. We do have a responsibility to finish what we started in Iraq. If we leave now the innocent day to day people of Iraq would suffer and that would make us wrong for overthrowing a brutal dictator and leaving the mess for the people to clean up.

You're confusing father and son. That's a common malady among people who don't pay attention.
