I was wondering what all of you thought about judging others. I say it's wrong to judge, however, many other people argue with me saying that it's not wrong.

I say ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE. - after all, no one is perfect and no one knows everything, so who are we, inperfect, not all knowing human beings to judge others. I mean, we are all flawed, so how can we judge.

What so you think?

It's clearly wrong to condemn others without overwhelming evidence, but we have to judge others.

Do you accept overtures of friendship this person is offering? Not if you have judged that person not friend-worthy.

If never make judgments about other people, you're a victim for every con artist.

There's nothing wrong with having opinions about others.

If you live in a democracy, you have an obligation to judge those who would represent you.

You're surrounded by contradictory information you aren't in a position to assess; you must use your judgment of the sources of that info, to come to reasonable conclusions (when you need to come to conclusions based on what others say).

At work, you need to be able to judge other's competence.

You need to judge those with whom you leave your child.

You need to judge the trustworthiness of your mechanic, doctor -- or whatever.

Good judgment is essential in life.

Just don't be needlessly harsh in those judgments.

Unfortunately, everyone instinctively judges everyone else. The moment you meet someone, you make certain assumptions {and perhaps allign with any kind of stereotypes} about that person. It's actually a self-defense mechanism -- if you trusted that man who offered you candy and a ride in your van as a child, you might not be with us today.

Can people not judge consciously? I don't really know. There's some kind of evaluation going on; how else would you decide whether you wanted to talk to them or be friends with them or even look at them?

I think the best we can do as a species is legislate and enforce laws that don't judge people on any facet other than their actions.

Yes, it is very wrong to judge. Even the bible states 'judge not lest ye be judged'.

But as humans we do this - some more then others. You learn you grow. You try not to do this because you dont want others to judge you especially since you know it is one sided and often wrong. We dont know the whole story of someone else.

To err is human...

Judging is only wrong when it is done from a standpoint of hypocrisy. But we are to judge, by way of discernment, all the time. The simple fact is everyone judges all of the time. It is a fact of life. Do you like eggs? Do you think Republican or Democrat policies are better? etc. Everything requires judgement.

Why do we not let children watch sex and violence? Because we have judged that it is harmful. You mentioned that only God can judge. Well, only God can judge a man's heart, but we are to judge in our daily lives.

From Mathew 7: 1 - 6

1 Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, Let me remove the speck from your eye; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite? FIRST (emphasis mine) remove the plank from your own eye, and THEN (e.m.) you will see clearly to remove the speck from (to remove the speck from = judge) your brother's eye. 6 Do not give what is HOLY (judgment - e.m.) to the DOGS (judgment - e.m.); nor cast your pearls before SWINE (judgment - e.m.), lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

These words are the words of Christ. He warns against judging before you have your own act together, but clearly passes judgment when giving further instruction about witnessing to/correcting others.

It's all about context.

There's nothing wrong with judging, people think it's wrong, because some person said it was, forget them and judge if you want, but first let me say,"I didn't do it!"

It is wrong to judge - that said, we all make judgements - it's how we are able to function in the world.

Some judgements are right on - correct and necessary for us to survive. Other judgements are inflammatory, wrong and cause problems for us and others.

It's the human condition.
