I find that Google and Yahoo is the best but another good source that is not said here is in tattoo books. Japanese style tattoos are rich is mythology.

Actually,.. you could probably get some Anime about their Mythology. Or watch Anime and observe things that are part of their Mythology.

For example: Sailor Moon had an episode with a Statue that had a story behind it.

I know there are alot of Folklore, Legend, Religious, and Mythological things in an Anime series called Haunted Junction.

Or you could start doing searches on Yahoo!

Wikipedia is good. I search yahoo for Japanese mythology a lot. I know there are some good books out there but the have slipped my mind.
