It should be considered within the same laws. The only issue is that in some places the laws are different for gay men...stuff like the age of consent and such... I remember reading a story about a guy who was 18 having a relationship with one that was 17 and he got arrested and locked up for 3 years when if it had been a situation with a 17 year old girl he would have faced a fine only(because of a difference in the consent laws concerning homosexual activity).

As far as I know, in UK law at least, the age of consent now applies equally to men having penetrative sex with anyone, male or female, but for two females there is no legal age of consent, because in law it isn't considered "sex". (That may have changed, recently, though, so I'm sorry if it's not right.)

Until 6 years ago, the age of consent was 16 for a man and a woman, but 18 for two men. It's now 16 for everyone. (UK again.)

The idea behind an age of consent is that below that age a person isn't considered legally old enough to make an informed decision - that's why the law had to be changed to make it equal for teenage boys and girls.

(Below the age of 12, for either sex, it is considered in law to be statutory rape and child sexual abuse, even if some form of 'consent' is given.)

If by "standard" you mean "relevance," then the answer is yes in most of Europe and America. (Although it's 14 in Russia, 15 in the Czech Republic)

It is less relevant in the MAJORITY of the world which isn't Muslim, and the age of consent laws are often much lower; 13 to 15 being quite common.

Straight or gay, you have to be 16yrs. Rules apply to both. If you are older and sleeping within someone under age you could go to jail.

That's a good question! I'm not 100% sure but it probably applies to underage sex in general. Not only heterosexual underage sex but homosexual underage sex as well.
