P.S. means post script. Post - "after" and script - "writing." So after you have written a letter and signed it, you would write P.S. to add an addition.

It stands for Post Scriptum or after the writing. It was very popular when people would type on typewriters because they would think of something after they finished typing and it was difficult to go back and add it. So they would add it at the end, "after the writing". Now with computers, it is easy to add in extra things that you think about, but people still like to use P.S..
I use it sometimes like btw (by the way). I might add it at the end of a letter, the thing I add might have nothing to do with the letter, but I want the recipient to know it.
