There are many different ways to do this;
1) Use a twisted Ethernet cable (probably not as it would mean running the cable downstairs
2) Use a Router and cables (likewise about the cables)
3) Use a Wireless router on the 1st PC's Ethernet connection - This will mean installing a wireless card into the 2nd PC and sharing the Internet connection to the Broadband modem from the Ethernet connection.
4) Change your Broadband modem for a Wireless Router / Modem and use the Ethernet connection to your 1st machine and the wireless connection to the 2nd - I recommend this as the best and most efficient method although the most expensive as you will need both Router/Modem and a wireless card.

I have 2 computers on the same broadband connection using a Netgear ADSL modem router DG834 v2. A local computer engineer (website below) supplied and programmed it for me. Can't remember how much it cost but I remember thinking it was cheap at the time. Both computers work perfectly, totally independent of each other, but if we both want to, we can also transfer and share files with each other

what ya need ta do is buy a "wireless PCI adapter. The PC I am using get's it's signal from my wifes in another room of the house. I installed a Linksys wireless adapter-G in my PC to recieve broadband from the other PC. This plug's into your motherboard inside the PC and has an antenna that will come out the back of the PC. For more info on the wireless go to http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Download_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1115417109934&packedargs=sku%3D1123637884333&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper. This should familurize you somewhat as to what you want ta do. Good luck. Mikie.

Buy a Router, connect your bradband modem into the "WAN" port of the router, and connect the PCs into the available LAN ports. Go wireless if you can.
