You can certainly find out which members of your posse dressed inappropriately and why it's inappropriate. Don't take "no" for an answer if you really want to eat there.... ask politely to consult with a restaurant manager to see if they can accommodate your group (it helps if you say your group is really hungry) such as a secluded corner... or a complimentary T-shirt to hide the halter top/belly piercing... whatever. While the restaurant is not obligated to serve everyone, they do owe you a reason as to where the group's dress code falls short. You have a stronger case for discrimination later if you can show you behaved reasonably in trying to resolve the issue.

If you were wearing low cut shirts or halters that's not appropriate for a family dining restaurant. They don't have to show you in writing, anyplace, bars gas stations, restaurants, they all "reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"

Maybe you could take it up with the better business bureau. Or you could go wearing what they said was up to code and check out the other patrons. You could even take pictures.

No Shirt, No shoes... No service is typical...
Profanity or un appropriate pictures or words on T shirts will get you the Honor of going else where...

No it's not discrimination, the proprietors have the right to refuse service to whomever they wish.

You and your friends should try maybe to wear something more formal like shirts that don't show much skin or pants that are revealing.
