There's a beauty pageant (no lie--I read it in Jane magazine) for super-size women in Thailand and the requirement is for women to show the characteristics of Thai elephants. It's to raise awareness of Thai elephants and also to celebrate very big women (most Thai women are thin and obesity isn't considered desirable in the culture.)
It's very popular, despite the usual cultural ick about obesity. Plus, there are elephants, which is always cool. If I were fabulously wealthy, I might have an elephant or two--I like their big eyes with their long eyelashes and their flappy ears and their trunks--elephants are super-cool. And smart.
