Slope formula

m = y₂- y₁ / x₂- x₁

Ordered Pair

(0.5, 4)(4, 6)

m = 4 - 6 / .5 - 4

m = - 2 / - 3.5

m = 2/3.5

- - - - - - - - -

Slope intercept form

y = mx + b

6 = 2/3.5x + b

6 = 2/3.5(4) + b

6 = 8/3.5 + b

6 = 2.281714286 + b

6 - 2.281714286 = 2.281714286 + b - 2.281714286

3.714285714 = b

The answer is b = 3.71 Roujded to two decimal places

The equation

y = 2/3.5x + 3.71

y=mx+b
first solve for x ... slope
y2-y1 / x2-x1 = slope, m
m = 6-4 / 4-.5
m = 2 / 3.5
m = 4 / 7

now equation is y = 4/7 x + b
plug in one coordinate set (we'll use 4,6)
6 = 4/7 * 4 + b
6 = 16/7 + b
b = 6 - 16/7
b = 42/7 - 16/7
b = 26/7
b = 3 5/7

Y-intercept is 3 and 5/7

First, find the equation of the line in y=mx+b format:

y = {(0.5, 4), (4, 6)}

m = rise/run
m = (6-4)/(4-0.5)
m = 2/3.5

y = 2/3.5(x) + b

Now plug in any of the 2 points and solve for b:

6 = 2/3.5(4) + b
6 = 2.29 + b
b = 6 - 2.29
b = 3.71

y = 2/3.5(x) + 3.71

Y-intercept is at y=3.71.
