The OJ trial had tremendous social significance in that it highlighted the ongoing racial tension between blacks and whites in America. Most black people tended to believe that OJ was innocent and most whites thought he was guilty. The whole thing was of course very public and the tension was already high because of the Rodney King trial and its riotous aftermath. It can also be seen as evidence to highlight economic disparity in the US. A poor person, regardless of color, would have been dragged from his home in the middle of the night and quickly found guilty. OJ was allowed to drive across town to visit his kids or whatever then turned himself in, bought the best defense money could buy, and got away with a murder in the face of overwhelming evidence against him. He was later convicted in civil court for wrongful death, but still hasn't paid a cent despite living a pretty decent life by most peoples' standards. Politically, I don't know. But socially (black vs white) and economically (rich vs poor) the trial was a huge story. I imagine that most people who lived through it can tell you where they were when the verdict arrived. Sort of like most people who were around during the Kennedy assassination can tell you exactly where they were then.

Hope this helps.

I think his trial was a circus show for the media. It really bothers me that he got away with murder knowing he killed those two people and then has the nerve to write a book on how he got away with it. His soul will burn in hell.
There were alot of people who believed he was innocent when in actually he was a murder.

well he was OBVIOUSLY guilty, the police chased him from his house after comitting the crime - no way he could be innocent

yet he got found innocent because he was black, and the jury was black.

social group = black community showed they cared more about making a statement to save a fellow black person, rather than justice and putting away a guilty man
