You just missed the National novel writing month challenge. It is held every November. They challenge writers to write 50,000 words in a month.

My 50K word novel came out to almost 100 pages. Number of pages is misleading. Dialogue and typeset effect the number of pages more than the story itself.

Just write, let the story develop. The only right number of pages is the number of pages you need to tell your story.

Good luck

As many as it takes you to write the story well, without rushing it or dragging it out. Also keep in mind your audience. A short children's book could be anywhere between one and twenty pages. A short young adult book is probably more like between fifty and one hundred pages. A short adult book would probably be one hundred to one hundred and fifty pages long. But keep in mind that the font, font size, and line spacing will affect the page length. Also, if you were looking to publish your book, most publishers will look for word count more than page number.

It really depends on what you mean by "short story" which is quite vague. Depending on what person you are, you might have different perspectives on how many pages. Me? ...200 pages... :] short and sweet!

What kind of book? Fiction, non-fiction, reference?
About the shortest you can get away with and call it a book(let) is around 100 pages.
