Islam does not require women to wear hijab or burkah. Women should be allowed to escape this unnecessary burden upon them. They can be Muslim without being subjected to erroneous, misguided interpretations of the Islamic dress code. Women must be modest and cover up from their wrists down to their ankles. They do not have to even wear a head dress. It should be optional. A burkah or veil should be banned.

Try explaining to your child that clothes are just clothes, no matter what they look like. Underneath clothes, skin colour and decoration, people are all just people. If it helps, try and arrange to take your child somewhere where s/he could talk to someone in a burkah - this might alay his/her fears somewhat :o)
Good luck!

anything new is abit scary- probably just leave it until she asks the questions. Then explain it as best you can. As long as you show its nothing to be worried about, kids normally go along with what their parents think.

Is that her view or yours? Kids have a reasonable fear of things that are outside their experience or understanding. It's our responsibility to help them understand it. We can do that in a way which either encourages or dispells their fears.
So you have a choice -- do you want your daughter to grow up with hate and fear in her heart or compassion and empathy?
