Any thing you put in the tank has the potential to become food. If you want fish as pets I advise you not to keep the fish with the turtle.

In my tank, along with the turtles, I have Rosie Red feeder fish, a Pleco, some snails and some Shiners. I hope that they leave my Pleco alone, but I relize that it may become food at any minute!
Please do not put goldfish in the tank with the turtle, they are very fatty and not good for him.

Reptiles don't make friends. They have a very primitive brain and instinct is about all it can handle.

Make sure your turtle is getting enough to eat. He sounds very hungry. As a selling point pet shops often tell prospective buyers ta ht the reptiles only need to eat once a week or once a month. Untrue!

Go to the library and get some reading material. You may be under feeding your turtle and he is terribly hungry.

Getting larger fish is good advice as far as it goes BUT a turtle would not be opposed to taking a bite out of a larger fish. It may even be possible ta ht the type of turtle you have is not for a community type tank. Some are more aggressive than others.

Get some literature. And good luck!

Turtles, especially Painted's, eat fish in the wild. They choose the fish to eat by size. They will ignore big or small fish- although they may harass big fish for fun, and eat small fish if they get hungry.

You can try some armored fish, but in general there are no good fish tank fish that a big turtle will totally ignore. This is why we rarely suggest keeping the two together.

turtles eat fish, you wont be able to keep any fish in there without it eating them. and gold fish are bad for turtles. there very fatty and have alot of bones. you should only feed them feeder rosies or guppies.
