primitive people used to think that volcanoes WERE gods, and that they needed to be appeased with sacrifices, or else risk getting them angry and erupting.

Hi. Since not all cultures are familiar with volcanoes, we have to limit the scope. I would guess that they are both subject to worship.

There is none. Volcanism is caused by plate tectonics and hot spots, nothing else. And besides, there is no god or gods.
