Your printer printhead may be dirty. You need to run the maintenance program on your printer to clean the ink nozzles. The manual will tell you how. Run the cleanning process afew times. Most of the time you can do this by going to Start, Settings, Printers & faxes. Right-click on the printer icon to get the properties popup. Choose the advanced tab or something like that to get to the maintenance section.

You don't say what printer you have. However, most have the same principals. Go to Control Panel, Printers and Fax's and open the icon. Right click on the icon for your printer. Go to Properties, then to Maintenance and do a Deep Cleanse or something similar. If the problem persists, go to Troubleshooter and follow the instructions....................

...assuming your print heads don't need cleaning...
Have you tried changing your print settings?
Most printers start out in a basic mode. You usually have at least 2 better settings to go to.
When you hit print and the printer selection comes up...
Click on printer preferences and set for a higher quality print.
If you need to clean your print heads...eMail me or add to your question with printer manufacturer and model number.

obvious thing would be a new cartridge, but i don't think you are stupid, so i reckon it could be that the settings on your printer are set to draft instead of normal or high quality.
