Prospero used to be the Duke of Milan; he was deposed by his brother. Now, Prospero lives on a remote island with his daughter MIranda and their servants, the monster Caliban and the fairy Ariel.

Through the use of his magical arts, Prospero causes his brother and others to be drawn to the island, where they are subjected to various charms and magic.

Essentially, it's a tale of redemption: those who wronged Prospero come to regret their past sins, and Prospero himself becomes more "human" himself, as he gives over his anger and desire for revenge.
